If you’ve been dreaming of an outdoor ceremony or reception, you’ve likely explored wedding tent rentals for your big event. However, these tents also offer a practical solution for anyone who wants to include children at their wedding.

Many couples welcome children and babies at their weddings. That said, most young children find weddings to be a long day. And we all know what happens at a wedding when kids are at loose ends or bored: chaos, noise, or distractions.

An excellent solution is to rent a bell tent and set it up beside your main event tent or outside your wedding venue, specifically for your young guests. A tent can offer a fun getaway for kids, a break for weary parents, or even a cozy napping spot for babies.

In this blog post on adding a kids’ tent to your wedding, we’ll explore:

  • Why you should add a wedding tent rental for kids

  • Five ideas for a kids’ tent for your wedding

  • Helpful tips when caring for kids in a tent

  • What you should know about event tent rentals

Why add a wedding tent rental for kids

Weddings are an important milestone, usually including our favorite people and sometimes even their young families. The challenge? Kids aren’t typically all that interested in weddings. They might love being included in a special moment or two, but it’s rare to see little kids sitting through speeches and enjoying themselves.

Babies can be especially challenging to include, as they are blissfully unaware of wedding day schedules and tend to sleep and cry when needed, not when it’s convenient.

Whether you’re planning an indoor or outdoor event, a tent rental can significantly impact how much you and your guests enjoy the day.

Outdoor or tent weddings

The first option is to add a bell tent to your outdoor wedding plans. If you’re looking at event tent rentals, pause and check out smaller bell tents for something you can set up nearby. Even a small tent wedding can benefit from having a separate space for kids.

Indoor venues

If you’ve booked a community hall or other venue that doesn’t have an ideal place for kids to gather and play, consider what you’ll do when kids get restless, or parents need to step away. Give them space to play and run by adding a tent outside.

5 ideas for a kids’ tent at your wedding

Remember, including kids means creating magical moments that are manageable. Let them help with elements that won’t disrupt your day if things don’t go as planned. Kids can throw flower petals, blow bubbles, and enjoy one silly dance together early in the reception. Once kids have been included in something fun, let them escape to their tent hideaway.

Here are five ways you can use a tent to help care for kids on your wedding day:

Quiet zone

Create a calm and quiet space for napping, complete with changing tables and seating for parents or caregivers. Be sure to add a comfortable spot for nursing moms.

Cuddle cave

With blankets, cushions, and comfortable seating, you can create a soothing space away from the action for young kids who need a break. Add a few board books and stuffies to give kids a safe space to call their own.

Snack or dinner zone

Kids aren’t likely to sit still and enjoy a formal dinner, but they love tasty food! You can ease stress by offering fun, kid-friendly foods in a casual setting. You can even let them eat picnic-style or prep mini-meals to snack from.

Activity hub

Set up play areas and an activity centre for bouncy kids who need to stack blocks and drive a few mini cars around to burn off some energy. Add fun rules like ‘no shoes allowed’ for extra comfort.

Mini movie theatre

Create a movie evening for older kids with movie projection on the white walls of the tent. Add cushions on the floor, blankets, popcorn, and snacks.

As a bonus, having a safe place for them to gather gives you plenty of opportunities for adorable photos of the group.

What you should know about event tent rentals

If you haven’t been looking at wedding tent rentals until now, you might need some information to help consider what type of tent might work for your event.

We recommend bell tents when adding a kids’ tent to your wedding day, as they give plenty of space and room to stand upright inside. A few sizes that have been handy for our clients include the 13-ft, 16-ft and 23-ft bell tents. We can help you choose based on how many kids you have attending, their ages, and how you’d like to use the space.

Depending on the tent size you need (and how many spare hands you have), you can DIY setting up your tent or have us take care of the setup for you.  We also offer a flat rate on three-day rentals to give you plenty of time to pick up your tent, enjoy your day, and drop it off afterward.

From elegant indoor venues to small tent weddings held in your backyard, adding a kids’ tent can help your day run more smoothly. Ready to explore how a tent rental could make your wedding day easier? Connect with us to book a consultation.
